Florian Joahn signs to COMPULSORY
COMPULSORY have announced an addition to their director's roster in the first days of 2020, with fashion photographer and filmmaker Florian Joahn joining the London-based production company for representation for music videos and commercials, and also for photography.
The East-German born, London-based artist, who's work bridges the sensual and the surreal and explores alternative views of masculinity in his photography (as above), has created visuals for brands and publications such as Nike, Fenty, Vogue Italia, Guiseppe Zanotti, Foam Museum, CNN, Ninamounah, KAF & Glamcult and worked with artists such as Skepta, Akwasi, Rita Ora and Yussef Dayes.
His film Hormones Are My Master marked his graceful move from photography into filmmaking in 2018, and he also co-directed the COMPULSORY-produced, documentary Whypipo: Mykki Blanco Speaks About Race in Whiteface, commissioned by Dazed to depict the reality of racial bias across the world, in the same year. Joahn has also now directed his first video through COMPULSORY, for Akwasi's Extase, to be released shortly.
"COMPULSORY has built a reputation around introducing new, powerful talent that can both change the industry and shape its future," says COMPULSORY Partner and EP Kadri Mahmoud about the signing. "We recognise Florian as a major part of that incentive for 2020, pushing the seasoned photographer into moving image.
"Florian's healthy career in fashion and photography perfectly aligns his taste as a unique creative force with COMPULSORY's appetite for compelling filmmaking - across music, content, commercials and film - all of which we are excited to catalyse with him. It is an incredibly exciting start to the year, and I'm looking forward to announcing more of his upcoming work with us."
