Plan B’s Prayin’ by Daniel Wolfe
After Stay Too Long and She Said the third part of Plan B/Ben Drew and Daniel Wolfe's Strickland Banks trilogy brings it all together - and is arguably the most impressive of the lot.
Following on from the courtroom drama-musical of She Said, Prayin' finds the South London rapper slung in jail. It's brutal and frightening, grittily real - but also shifts, quite brilliantly, to moments of fantasy.
Ben Drew does, of course, have acting chops, having worked with Michael Caine on Harry Brown, and he gives another sterling performance here. But what an achievement by Daniel Wolfe. This stands alone as a great video, but it's also the finale to a genuinely coherent music video trilogy. That was always hard to do, even in the 'good old days'. To do it now almost seems miraculous.
