Following up the timely take on Tinder in their video for Give Me A Try, The Wombats' latest for Be Your Shadow by takes to the sporting arena - specifically the wrestling mat – with a similar lighthearted spirit. And possibly also with a bit of a sexual frisson...
In James Moore's video, a geeky hanger-on at a wrestling gym is in awe of the powerhouse star performer, who flattens all-comers. Then the feeble geek gets to grapple with the musclebound champ - with predictable results. Its just what happens next is rather less expected...
"The idea came pretty quickly after listening to the slightly sadomasochistic lyrics. The idea was to use the classic Rocky-style fight film narrative, but rather than have our main character in it to win it, he's training to intentionally get a pasting from his hero.
"We worked with art department and wardrobe to stick to a limited, almost comic book, colour palette, and DOP Jonas Mortensen has once again done a great job shooting and lighting it.
"Casting was pretty interesting - I spent a couple of afternoons getting thrown around and pinned to floor of our office in Old Street to make sure the wrestlers wouldn't break our lead, non-wrestling, actor. Thanks to everyone involved for working really hard to pull it together."
