Jax Jones 'Yeah Yeah Yeah' by Scott Altman
Scott Altman has created this delightful video for Jax Jones' track Yeah Yeah Yeah, featuring grown-ups pushing their small children in their buggy-boards on their eventful ride in their local skatepark. That's right, buggy-boards: baby buggies attached to longboards.
The director explains below how it all came together on location in Barcelona, and how health and safety considerations were indeed taken into account, before the video was graded and finished at ENVY in London.
SCOTT ALTMAN:
"The brief really appealed to me as the label/management were after something quirky, in a similar vein to previous Duke Dumont vids. So I saw the project as a perfect opportunity to push the brief and go for a concept, with a subtle narrative, that was ultimately original and ideally hadn't been filmed before.
"Soon after, I came across a new device that hadn't been released on the market yet – essentially was a cross between a child's buggy and a longboard. With a background in skateboarding I thought it would be pretty cool to have a few radical parents take to the streets, with their kids in these longboard buggies and perform skate tricks, and routines to the track.
"I knew it was going to be a huge challenge and most likely something the label/management wouldn't go for, and was very surprised when we heard from them expressing their interest.
"From there it was all go and we had the boards custom-made, and dummies created (to double up as the kids) so more extreme tricks could be performed, and a great team in the UK and Spain to make it all become a reality."
DANNY WOOD (Colourist, ENVY):
“It was a very nice project to grade; Scott has a great attention to detail. We wanted the grade to give the promo a Californian summer feel while keeping it quite fresh. In Flame, Kieran Baxter added lens flares to enhance the sunny scenes and also ramped the footage to help merge the track with the visuals.”
