FKA twigs 'M3LL155X' by FKA twigs
FKA twigs' new EP M3LL155X features five songs, four of which - Figure 8, I'm Your Doll, In Time and Glass & Patron - are accompanied by a video directed by twigs herself, that come together to form a single continuous 16 minute film.
As the last of the four, for Glass & Patron, was released as part of the 2015 YouTube Music Awards back in March, the collected videos in M3LL155X puts that final chapter into context. And as a whole, its a big statement on the birth of creativity - involving sex, pregnancy, pain, and ultimately liberation.
It's an intense experience, with memorable imagery - and elements of humour – as twigs' work as a director blossoms in tandem with her work as a artist-performer. That's already been recognised at this year's MTV VMAs, where her self-directed video Pendulum is nominated, together with the Nabil-directed video for Two Weeks. And she has just directed seven dance performance films for the Manchester International Festival – part of her residency there last month - which should be released later in the year.
