In Sil Van Der Woerd and Jorik Dozy's extraordinary, hugely resonant video for Novo Amor a man walks along the ocean floor surveying the wonder of marine life, from sea turtle to gigantic manta ray. But then he encounters the scourge of the natural world - one plastic bag, that then becomes many.

Then, even more remarkably, he witnesses a Leviathan of pollution: a humpbacked whale made of plastic and other manmade materials...

Shot off the coast of Bali, Van Der Woerd and Jorik Dozy have worked with free diver Michael Board to create something really special, and surely one of the best videos of the year so far.

The Welsh artist Novo Amor's beautifully ethereal Birthplace provides the jumping off point for a piece that has the viewer hooked on a number of levels, from the how-did-they-do-that aspect, to the powerful message of marine destruction, to the introduction of the symbolic manmade whale - and its consumption of Board, the marine man who remains under the surface.

To give some indication of what it took to make this brilliant video, Board made around 250 free dives just for this shoot - usually loaded with weights to keep him at the ocean floor.

And the full story of it's making can be found in this interview with the directors in The Independent.
