Hamzaa 'Write It Down' by Luke Monaghan
After his emotional video for Dermot Kennedy's Outnumbered, released during the summer, Luke Monaghan does a similarly powerful, beautifully crafted job for young London singer Hamzaa.
Monaghan visualises her song Write It Down as the story of a subdued teenage girl (possibly a younger version of Hamzaa) who is wedded to the journal in which she pours her heart and soul. And that causes a tension within her family.
In a world of softly-lit domestic interiors, and nighttime exteriors, shot by Harry Wheeler, Hamzaa herself is captured performing in commonplace London locations - a bus stop, a park - like an slightly removed observer of the unfolding narrative.
And in the girl's story, there is eventually a break in the tension - perhaps unexpected, but an authentic expression of Hamzaa's own story.
