George Gretton 'Grey / Blue ' by Imogen Harrison
George Gretton is waiting in isolation in Imogen Harrison's video for Grey / Blue, a visual which extends the downbeat themes of the track very effectively.
Gretton wanders out from his flat into dark London streets on his own, and DoP Simon Plunket keeps things hazy and slightly underexposed, creating a surreal yet dreamlike atmosphere in this portrait of bleak longing.
We spent a lot of time in the early hours of the morning, waiting for London’s roads to be empty... there wasn’t much room for error here.
"Duality and juxtaposition are pretty massive themes throughout the song and something we wanted to build on in the video; being locked inside through the day with your own thoughts and being free of that feeling at night.
"I wanted to create a visual that had as much depth and texture as the track and that built on the introspective emotion of the lyrics. George and I began creating this narrative of complete isolation in a usually chaotic landscape, which felt like a fitting visual metaphor.
"We knew the key to creating the pensive tension in this video was emptiness, so we spent a lot of time in the early hours of the morning, waiting for London’s roads to be empty and as we were shooting on film there wasn’t much room for error here. All in all, we did a lot more waiting than we did shooting, but I think it was worth the wait."
