The Academic 'Acting My Age' by Hope Kemp and Ronan Corrigan
Hope Kemp and Ronan Corrigan celebrate carefree youth in their latest video for The Academic.
Shot under a beautiful sunset, the video for Acting My Age features a handful of cast members who race around the beach in a car, messing around and having fun.
Focusing on emotion and snippets of memories instead of a traditional narrative, the visual is a montage of experiences which pay homage to life, love and youth.
DoP George Barnes captures the hyperactive energy of the concept through handheld camera movement and unique angles, mixing a documentary-style aesthetic with more playful setups.
HOPE KEMP:
The film is about the summers you grow up in and a love-letter to small town Ireland.
"We were strolling along Benone Beach in Derry one evening during lockdown and these boy racers came flying past us in their cars, hanging out of their windows and doing doughnuts in the sand.
"It completely captured the spirit of the song for us and we spent a weekend filming and documenting the madness at sunset down at the beach. We had a tiny cast and crew of people who were also in lockdown nearby and brought anti-virus PPE on a shoot for the very first time.
"The film is about the summers you grow up in and a love-letter to small town Ireland. 'This is what we live for... what else are we meant to do?'"
