Cian Ducrot 'Not Usually Like This' by Harry Law
Harry Law dramatises a tense love triangle in his video for Irish/French singer-songwriter and YouTuber Cian Ducrot.
It was just about getting on eye level with our characters and letting them run the show.
"This is a true story. Cian wrote an honest song about something that happened to him; about a relationship he fell deeply into, and then suddenly out of. He lost a friend and he lost someone he loved. There was a complicated process of deception, jealousy, joy — and there was blood. We had a few minutes to cover all that ground.
"The approach was to leave behind all the bells and whistles. Don’t impose on it. Trust that what happened will be enough and trust that we can get everything we need from very talented performers. Fred and Andrew, our producers created an environment where this all came naturally. Simon, our DP, created a tone where it felt heightened. We had an impeccable crew that gave us perfect momentum. We were in unbelievable hands.
"We cast a real couple. The day was just full of quiet, open dialogues. What we shot we covered close and intimately. This wasn’t about where we are, it looking pretty or the pyrotechnics of our camera language — it was just about getting on eye level with our characters and letting them run the show.
"This is a love triangle film. Shooting it, and then editing it — it was all about where those eyes are going in the triangle. Every set up and every cut is informed by that. That’s the film."
