Tash Tung directs the powerful visuals for Shaybo’s new track My Sister, featuring Jorja Smith.

The video uses the backdrop of a church to deliver a strong sermon of empowerment to victims of domestic violence.

Tung constructs a religious experience, with women of all ages standing in the congregation listening to Shaybo’s message. Intimate in the way it portrays emotion in the audience, the concept mirrors the deeply personal subject matter of the track. These setups are interspersed with shots of a dancer, standing strong yet delicate with her movements.

The sermon empowers the audience to help pull themselves out of the dark place they find themselves in, and ends in an expansive landscape, visually representing greener pastures and an overall message of hope.

TASH TUNG:

I knew their chemistry... was something special and spoke to the idea of sisterhood.

"There are so many truths and relatable scenarios in the song - it's bittersweet.

"I wanted the film to acknowledge that these situations of domestic violence and psychological abuse are realities for a lot of women, and representation was - and always should be - so important. Amongst the physicality of emotion, I wanted to elevate and emphasise the spiritual aspect of healing, so that we end on hope.

"I've worked with Jorja and Shaybo before on a live performance and I knew their chemistry and connection was something special and spoke to the idea of sisterhood - a bond I could mirror in the main narrative.

"It was such pleasure to direct all these amazing women and work with a stellar team."
